  • What's the USB setup at the moment? Worth seeing whether they get faster on different hubs/ports.
  • Well, I've gone back and forth every 3-5 hours with these two flag settings:

    --freq=800 -G /dev/cu.usbmodem1421 -G /dev/cu.usbmodem1451

    --freq=800 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1421 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1451

The results seem about the same and according to the graphs in the pools, the has rate is running between 260 and 320. Consistent, but disappointing. I even tried just one running and that was hashing in the low 200s.

I did try different ports with similar results. I have not gone back to trying the powered hub. Maybe I'll give that a try tomorrow.

  • I'll ask gridseed about it, maybe you're supposed to enter them some other way like comma separated or something… did you try with just the flags

    --freq 800 --dual

    ?
  • Hi, I'm Willian. It's not work, yet.

[2014-03-09 04:24:50] gridseed detect (250:3) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

[2014-03-09 04:24:56] gridseed detect (250:3) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

  • Sorry, I've tried the frags in CGminer.
  • Hey Willian,

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working yet for BTC mining with the 5 chip devices, apparently only Scrypt mining in the CPU Miner window
  • You made a good job. I've tried to use the device in the other OS, it's impassible to work. Because they don't specific the device driver, OS version, Software version, correct frag and something come with trojan... etc. Thank you so much.

The test you are doing, have we set to LTC only mode ou not? How to do it?

Do you got some sample to work, now?

I'd like to check the firmware upgrade for Mac. In Windows is so confuse, I cannot understand it.

Anyway, if I can contribute with some information or test, please contract me. Let's make the Mac better.
  • Thanks! I wouldn't have thought it was easier on Mac OS yet but it should be getting easier now :)

If you use the USB stick you can use either mode, BTC mode in FPGA/ASIC miner window with manual flags
    -S dualminer:all
and scrypt in the GPU window set to Scrypt/Litecoin with the same manual flags

for the USB stick you need the ftdi driver

And with the USB stick there's a switch on the device for mode

for the 5 chip device with the fan you don't need to change drivers and there's no mode switch, you need to use CPU Miner window with the flags

    --freq 750 -G /dev/cu.usbmodem1421

but put the path to your device there, which you can find by opening Terminal and running

    ls -l /dev/cu.*

I haven't looked in to the firmware upgrade yet but I'll check it out now!
  • You said that --freq 750 works better than --freq 800.

I've looked for the "GD MCU ISP Programmer" for Mac, there is nothing in internet.

I cannot understand "Press Down USB miner white swtch" in the upgrade instruction.

There is a bottom inside only. If I let it pressed during the boot of the device (5 chips), It don't work, and PC cannot identify it. I hope it easier in Mac (All thing is eaier in Mac).

Will you show the speed in CPU Miner Window?
  • The --freq 750 is really faster. Great jobs!
  • 750 doesn't necessarily work better, it depends on the chips in your specific unit and temperature, stuff like that, it's definitely work experimenting with different values, 600 is default and higher should be faster but beyond a certain point it starts going down

Unfortunately the backend miner is broken and doesn't report the miner speed which is why it says 0kh but the updates are coming fast and there's going to be another MacMiner update later today with another option which should work better with nwoolls updated bfgminer backend so that should show speed

@baronetta this made me think perhaps one of your units doesn't like the higher frequency - it's worth seeing what they're each capable of on their own! But the next update for MacMiner may help too.
  • I saw in chinese site, they use the cgminer 3.7.2, is more stabile, hove you tried it?
They say that the miner can work up to 1200 but the guarantee is limite to 900.
  • I went back and tried the --freq 800 --dual but that's definitely not working.

I'll go back to my previous settings and try 750 for frequency. Not a lot of time today to fiddle with this, but I will check back in today.
  • And, I'll watch for your next update. Will there still be a separate Gridseed version?
  • edited March 2014
I've tested just about every configuration I could think of, including running each device solo and confirmed they both run at about the same speed. I'm guessing the software is only recognizing one of them, regardless of the flag settings. I tried with a comma separation and that made no difference in speed.  Freq at 750 does seem to be the best setting, out pacing the 800 freq by around 30kh/s. I tried all the way up to 1200. Anything over 900 and the output window says it's at 600.

I know with the Antminers, the output window shows each device listed separately. The Gridseed window has ever shown up in the output window. That combined with lack of a significant speed increase is why I think the second device is not being recognized. And, I've tried switching the order of how I list them in the flags.

So, I'm looking forward to your next version of MacMiner! And, I'll keep sharing my results.

  • I haven't seed a gridseed cg 3.7.2, can you link me to that, and the firmware update info you're looking at please?

The update is here now with bfgminer support for scrypt mining on these devices so it should work in the GPU window set to Litecoin with the flags
    -S gridseed:all --set-device gridseed:clock=750

Hopefully that'll get both devices working simultaneously!

  • Did you use the manual flag

    -S gridseed:all

    ?

It might help to run this in Terminal:
    sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDC && sudo kextload -b com.apple.driver.AppleUSBCDCACMData

I saw someone running cpuminer with these flags for multiple devices:
    -G /dev/ttyACM0, /dev/ttyACM1
  • I had a look at the firmware upgrade and I'm not optimistic about getting it to work on a Mac, I don't think I could get a solution figured out without a unit to test and that's not going to happen for a while - I'm hoping we can telnet to the device or something.
