Gridseed Help

edited March 2014 in Support
I have two Gridseeds and finally got all the pieces to get one rolling today. I have downloaded the special version of MacMiner for Gridseed, but I am getting nowhere. I also installed the suggested driver.

It seems that the software is not detecting the Gridseed.

In the FPGA/ASIC window I get this:

 [2014-03-05 17:51:29] Started bfgminer 3.10.0

 [2014-03-05 17:51:29] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf

 [2014-03-05 17:51:29] No devices detected!

In the GPU window I get this:

 [2014-03-05 17:57:58] Started bfgminer 3.10.0

 [2014-03-05 17:57:58] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/ltcurls.conf

 [2014-03-05 17:57:59] CL Platform 0 vendor: Apple

 [2014-03-05 17:57:59] CL Platform 0 name: Apple

 [2014-03-05 17:57:59] CL Platform 0 version: OpenCL 1.2 (Dec  8 2013 21:07:05)

 [2014-03-05 17:57:59] Platform 0 devices: 1

 [2014-03-05 17:57:59] 0 Iris Pro

[2014-03-05 17:57:59] Unable to load ati adl library

Apparently Iris Pro is the internal name of the GPU card

I'm really stumped (not too hard when it comes to some of this stuff) and don't know what to do to get this going.

HELP (again!)

Thanks,
Tami

  • Hey Tami, is this the dual miner usb stick or the infinity 5 chip device? The latter wasn't working in the last version but it's just been updated and I'd like to hear whether it works with that:

Either way you need to use the manual flag
    -S dualminer:all

    Did you set that?
  • Hi again...

What I have is the 5 chip device.

I downloaded the version 2 from the link you posted. I also uninstalled previous versions first. I have out in the manual flag as directed, and I had set that previously as well.

In the FPGA/ASIC window I'm now getting this:

     [2014-03-05 22:46:11] Started bfgminer 3.10.0

And, in the GPU window I'm getting this:

    Any guidance greatly appreciated!

  • The bfgminer doesn't work with the 5 chip devices yet unfortunately, but you may get the CGMiner window with manual flags like this:
    --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=800,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0

and the CPU Miner window set up for Litecoin with manual flags like this:

    -F 800 --dual
  • I've just updated the cgminer version as gridseed updated theirs so it's worth grabbing the latest version
  • OK, I downloaded version 3.... Thank You!

I also plugged both the devices into my powered USB hub. because I was waiting for the power supplies I had just one plugged in directly to the back of the iMac before.

So, here's what I'm seeing now... this in the CG Miner window:

     [2014-03-06 16:44:21] Started cgminer 3.8.5

     [2014-03-06 16:44:21] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf

[2014-03-06 16:44:22] gridseed detect (20:8) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

[2014-03-06 16:44:22] gridseed detect (20:7) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

     [2014-03-06 16:44:22] No devices detected!

[2014-03-06 16:44:22] Waiting for USB hotplug devices or press q to quit

[2014-03-06 16:44:22] Probing for an alive pool

     [2014-03-06 16:44:23] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 32

     [2014-03-06 16:44:23] Network diff set to 37.7M

[2014-03-06 16:44:28] API running in IP access mode on port 4048 (24)

     [2014-03-06 16:44:21] Started cgminer 3.8.5

At least it IS seeing the gridseeds so I will count that as progress! But what to do from here? Oh and I did include the manual flags as indicated above. Also, I shutdown and rebooted before giving this a try.

    From the CPU Miner:

    dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libidn.11.dylib

      Referenced from: /Applications/MacMiner - Gridseed/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/gridseedcpu/bin/minerd

Since my Antminers are working great, I'm actually most interested in getting these running for Scrypt pools... So, I'm stuck again and at your mercy.

As always, thanks for sticking with me on this!

    Tami

  • Can you try with just one plugged in directly please? I know these miners are fussy with hubs with surge protection so best to try that until just one is working.

I'll recompile the cpu miner now and we can give that another shot! That's what we need for Scrypt
  • OK, I plugged each gridseed (not at the same time) into each of the four USB ports on the back of the iMac. I quit MacMiner each time before moving the cable to a different port.

    Here's what I'm getting consistently:

    [2014-03-06 17:10:54] Started cgminer 3.8.5
     [2014-03-06 17:10:54] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf
[2014-03-06 17:10:56] gridseed detect (20:15) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)
     [2014-03-06 17:10:56] No devices detected!
[2014-03-06 17:10:56] Waiting for USB hotplug devices or press q to quit
[2014-03-06 17:10:56] Probing for an alive pool
     [2014-03-06 17:10:56] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 32
     [2014-03-06 17:10:57] Network diff set to 21.8M
[2014-03-06 17:11:02] API running in IP access mode on port 4048 (24)

Hoping this is helpful to you.

On a side note I thought it was curious that the manual flags I input in the CGMiner window did not "stick" and I needed to enter them again each time I reopened MacMiner.

  • Ah, I'll look into the flags not sticking, thanks for the heads up!

Did you try the CPU Miner in the new version?

I'm guessing the new cgminer for gridseed wants the drivers unloaded so open Terminal and run this:

    sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && sudo kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver && kextunload -b com.silabs.driver.CP210xVCPDriver64 && kextunload -b com.FTDI.driver.FTDIUSBSerialDriver && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver64.kext && kextunload -b Library/Extensions/FTDIUSBSerialDriver.kext

Just copy and paste that whole chunk all at once, it'll say some aren't found but it's a catch all. Once you've done that try again - but don't restart, as that unsets what that command does.

Unfortunately once you run that command you can't use the antminer with bfgminer but cgminer should pick it up
  • Oh, you snuck that CPU update in on me while I was doing the other tests.

I'll download that and give your other instructions a whirl. Will report back soon!

  • This is what I am getting from the CPU Miner on the latest version with the manual flag set as -F 800 --dual

  • Looks like a good start, does it start hashing? You may need to remove the --dual flag if you haven't started cgminer BTC mining on it first
  • And I'm still getting about the same results with CGMiner after running the terminal commands and opening MacMiner again.

  • Does the cpu miner start hashing at all? I'll compile a slightly altered version of the cgminer to try.
  • It's also worth changing the -F 800 flag to -F 600 until it's working, that sets the frequency which changes the hash rate
  • No, the CPUMiner never started hashing... just repeated what I pasted above.  Without the --dual flag it just kicks into my CPU.

With the -F 600 flag I'm still getting the same output as before and no hashing.
  • weird that it doesn't pick up on the device at all without the dual flag - try removing --dual but adding

    --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem23432
replacing /dev/cu.usbmodem... with your device which you can get if you open Terminal and run

    ls -l /dev/cu.*

    it'll look like the above

Any luck with the newer cgminer (assuming you've run that long kextunload command since the last machine restart)?
  • Downloaded v5. Double checked and ran the terminal commands to be sure the drivers were unloaded. I entered this in the manual flag (hope I got this right... my brain feeling fuzzy since I'm so out of my element with this)

    --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=800,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0

As for the CPU I found my device ID and entered and hit the APPLY button.  This is exactly what I pasted... --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1411

It is still only accessing my CPU. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone with this ... eeeek!

I have to call it a night... I'll keep plugging away as long as you do on this!

    Thanks!
  • Were you running the CPU miner after the kextunload? I'm not sure which way it should be but it might want those drivers intact and the ftdi chip driver

installed - restarting will reset the unloaded drivers or running the same command replacing kextunload with kextload
  • Someone else has confirmed it working with the manual flags

    --freq=600 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodemfd1421

replacing the device path of course. So if that doesn't work we just need to look at the drivers installed/loaded.
  • Please make sure to conduct the tests with one device connected directly not via the hub too!
  • OK, it looks like that flag did the trick!

The CPU Miner window shows zero as the hash rate. But, it shows many accepted shares and 99.4% acceptance level. The pool is showing my hash rate at 260-330 which seems pretty good considering that the frequency is set for 600.

By the way, I did not make any changes to the drivers since the last test (lat night for me) and have not rebooted the computer.

So, my next question is, how do I set up the flags to get both of them running?

Still not having luck with the CG Miner. I put in this flag (I think it's the last one you had me try, got a little lost in the back and forth):

    --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=800,chips=5,modules=1,usefifo=0,btc=16 --hotplug=0
I should be able to run both the CPU and CG miners at the same time, correct?

    Thanks again!
    Tami

  • I boosted the frequency to 800.... still running great, and acceptance 100% sticking at 100%! Hash rate showing 320-360 now.

  • Awesome, glad to hear that's running! I guess it's quite picky about the flags. This is all valuable new information :)

To get cgminer running at the same time it must be started first but it's uncertain whether this version will work and if it does which driver set up should be in place. You have the manual flags right but you might want to turn the frequency down, maybe btc down to btc=15
  • OK, I will give that a try with the cgminer.

How can I get both my gridseeds running with the CPU Miner?

Very happy some of my feedback can help others get going!

  • cgminer should auto detect all of them, I forgot to say you need to specify --dual for cpu miner if you get cgminer running first - if you add the --dual flag I think it might autodetect all the devices but you may need to use
    --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1411 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1412

  • Trying to get cgminer going. I stopped the cpu miner then did set up for cgminer and started and got this:
     [2014-03-07 15:12:13] Started cgminer 3.8.5

     [2014-03-07 15:12:13] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf

[2014-03-07 15:12:14] gridseed detect (20:8) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

[2014-03-07 15:12:14] gridseed detect (20:11) failed to initialise (incorrect device?)

     [2014-03-07 15:12:14] No devices detected!

[2014-03-07 15:12:14] Waiting for USB hotplug devices or press q to quit

[2014-03-07 15:12:14] Probing for an alive pool

     [2014-03-07 15:12:15] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 16

I quit MacMiner and reopened. For some reason the CPU Miner opens and starts immediately. I closed that window and again entered the flags you gave me for cgminer. Getting different results this time:

    [2014-03-07 15:14:08] Started cgminer 3.8.5

     [2014-03-07 15:14:08] Loaded configuration file /Users/tams/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.conf

As for the CPU Miner the --dual flag did not work. I'm a bit confused by the results of entering the --freq=800 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1411 --freq=800 --gc3355=/dev/cu.usbmodem1451 flag for both devices.

The hash rate showing in my pool info is lower (i.e. 250 now, 350 with one device) but it seems the number of accepted shares in a given time (I did a comparison test) is about 20% greater.

Not sure what's going on with that. I would hope for double the hashing with both devices running.

Also, not sure how helpful that is to you. As always, any and all guidance gratefully accepted!

    Tami

  • Hmm the preferences are a little unchecked in this version as it's alongside the beta development and I know there have been a lot of big bugs in previous gridseed versions I'm still ironing out, sorry about that!

I think the cgminer bug we're seeing was addressed by gridseed in a very recent update so I'll recompile that before we give that another shot

weird behaviour you're seeing with CPU Miner, I'd suggest only setting freq once and maybe try setting
    -G /dev/cu...
    twice instead of --gc3355...
also I don't think you should use the --dual flag with the freq flag
  • After my last post I had taken out the second freq flag. The hash rate seemed to stabilize at around 520ish. Better than with just one running but I am still hoping it gets better as we can tweak it!

I changed the flag as suggested and we'll see how they do overnight.

I'll check in with you tomorrow!
