I've installed MacMiner on my MacPro, run the legacy pool config, set the mine to SHA-256 Bitcoin etc and this is all I get:

Your miner was restarted automatically after a sudden stop at 18:01:16.
I should just add that none of the other 'mines' seem to work either - they all have some issue or other.
So can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? It is obviously something fundamental, but I'm very new to this so have no idea where I am going wrong. Also please if there is an explanation page or some other start up page that I have not been able to find please let me know.
Thanks!!

This seems to be a fairly common problem with the trashcan Mac Pro, although it's hard to say whether that's to any extent due to the fact we're long past anyone being able to mine Bitcoin on a GPU.
Why did you use the legacy set up btw? It has a lot of old pools that no longer exist as drop down options I think - I'd definitely recommend the newer setup or editing your .conf file manually.
If you want to verify that it's going to work with anything, I'd suggest trying to mine Decred - much of the GPU mining facilities in MacMiner are running on sgminer which has limited functionality on macOS.
