Hi there,

     I'm brand new at this and don't really know what I'm doing.  I have a Mac with the most recent iOS.  I also have an ASIC USB miner.  How do I make all this stuff work together?

What kind of USB miner? plug it in and press start on the FPGA/ASIC window, if that doesn't work we'll figure out what's wrong!

I think its a block erupter.  First off, Mac Miner keeps 'quitting unexpectedly'.  Maybe I'm over-working it in the settings.  It also says that the erupted is being used by another process.This is what it reads:

Ah, what were you doing when it quit unexpectedly? Can you reproduce the crash and if so, when the panel comes up click 'report' and paste the debug info for me here please?

The problem you've having now is that because it quit unexpectedly it didn't stop the bfgminer process so it is actually still mining, disconnected from MacMiner.

Open Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder which is in the Applications folder and in activity monitor sort alphabetically and find any processes named bfgminer and force quit them all. That will stop the in use problem

Thanks for posting all that, I think I got what I needed from the bit that says thread 6 crashed. Seems to be expected a string to be something it's not…

Probably won't make a difference, but could you please move MacMiner to your Applications folder and see whether the crashes continue? 

Are they happening when MacMiner is running in the background, and you're not interacting with it?

Are you only using the ASIC window, and do you have MobileMiner set up? Please let me know every setting you changed so I can attempt to reproduce the error.

as it seems to be a problem changing a string, I might just find and replace non-editable NSStrings with editable NSMutableStrings in the relevant code files for a test version to see whether that fixes things for you.

Weird, I left mine running since I last posted with no problem - did you move it to the applications folder? Unfortunately I'm really busy the next few days, but when I get a chance I'll check whether it's releasing something it shouldn't be or mishandling strings. Don't suppose you have Xcode installed and could follow a simple walkthrough that might point out the line of code causing the problem? I can't make the crash happen on my end so I can't do that test

oh btw if you open Terminal you can paste this in it to mine without the MacMiner gui, just using bfgminer:

/Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin/bfgminer -S erupter:all

press enter and it'll ask you for your pool information.

thanks i was able to get it working with kano, it ran for about 7 hours then quit during the night, did i get paid anything?

You'll have to check on that with your pool/wallet. But if you're just using your computer (rather than an ASIC) and mining BTC I kinda doubt it, difficulty is too hard these days.
