CPU miner doesn't update API window yet as it doesn't use the same API as the others. It can take a while to show work on heavily mined coins due to high difficulty. Can you post specifically what it says about OpenCL please? It sounds like it's not…

if that's maxing the GPU and freezing things up you probably won't get any better from your GPU unfortunately. What do you have set up as the fast pool server? I haven't tested it, but it definitely works with scrypt so it's probably a setup or pool…
