"Pool 0 is hiding block contents from us" and "Pool 0 is sending mismatched block contents to us"

Hello all,

First, I'm a n00b, please pardon me in advance if I'm doing something wrong.

I'm using MacMiner to try and mine Bitcoin, just to see how this whole thing works.

I believe I've configured everything properly to use the GPU miner. The connection, authentication, and authorization with the pool appears to be fine. ("Stratum authorisation success for pool 0")

However, then I start getting these kind of messages:

[2017-08-04 17:18:20] Pool 0 is hiding block contents from us
[2017-08-04 17:18:20] Pool 0 is sending mismatched block contents to us (0 is not 2048-4095)

Running the miner for the entire night, not a single fractional coin was mined.

Any idea how I can fix these messages?

The full logs are pasted below; I believe I've removed any sensitive information.

Thanks in advance!

  • Does it end up accepting shares? Those notifications usually aren't anything to worry about. Sometimes the mismatched block contents is a sign of problems related to unexpected share difficulty at the pool but if it's working normally it can be ignored.

  • Thanks for replying! I left it running all night, and it kept generating these kind of messages. In the morning, not a single tiniest of fractions were mined... The pool showed completely zero activity from me.

Any ideas? I am running it on a MacBook Pro (mid 2015) with an AMD Radeon R9 M370X, which the software seem to have properly detected.

My pool is on viabtc.com, if that matters at all.

  • I suspect the problem is that it's way too hard to mine Bitcoin with a GPU these days, if you put your hash rate in to a profitability calculator you'll see it's next to nothing so the share difficulty at the pool is probably too high.

If you want to GPU mine in 2017 you should look in to alt currencies that are less ASIC dominated, you can also use MacMiner with nicehash who sell your hash power to buyers using a bunch of different algorithms.

  • I'll look into nicehash and see how it can possibly work with MacMiner, thanks
