I have no Idea what I am doing

edited April 2014 in Support
I have recently discovered BTC/LTC and all the others. I finally worked up the nerve to give it a go. I am (I think) only mining on my Mac until I figure all this out before I invest in hardware. I downloaded Litecoin's wallet and obtained an address, then I down loaded Macminer and used the LTC address in the rewards part of the set up. I also downloaded a fan control and I know thats working ..LOL I can hear it.

So I am guessing I am mining and the funds will be sent to my LTC wallet. Am I correct? and how do I even know if this is all working? I see a bunch of data scrolling by on the miner.

The CPU is showing an ave of 35 KH/s and the GPU is around 6

Is there a web site I can go to to see my account and what % my little set up is on the pool? I think I am set up in what ever pool was preset in the macminer but I am not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

OK me again…I thought this might help some one answer me if I am successfully mining or not. This is a screen shot of how I set every thing up. I see I am getting "connection timed out" a lot on the GPU side

  • You're set up fine although your GPU isn't getting much, what is it? At that rate I'd probably just stick to the CPU. Look for your LTC address here

compare to some of the other speeds to get an idea of payout - a more traditional pool might be a better idea at that speed

This is the details of my GPU.    Is the "connection timed out" normal? and is there any way to get more performance out of it.

I noticed on the link you gave me there is data on "DirtFighter and differing data on my LTC address, is that normal?

I will more than likely be investing in ASIC gear but like I said i know next to nothing about all this and want to test and learn before spending any significant amount of money.

Thank you for responding to my questions, I appreciate it
    DirtFighter

  • What's the intensity set to? For LTC mining I find it tends to take off set manually to about 11

DirtFighter shouldn't show up on the pool page, only the LTC address, unless you've set the password to DirtFighter and the username to the address. Connection timed out can be normal but if it's not connecting at all then it's a problem.
  • I cleared up the DirtFighter and LTC address thing ..( I hope)..I have the GPU set to 11 as suggested…currently getting 6.4 KHs.

I also tried to switch to Dogecoin…I figured I would see success faster with just using the computer. I was not able to get MacMiner to accept the pool info, I tried to use Fast-pool. Any help there would be great.

I have not been  mining for the last day or so because the wife got pissed she could not get the computer to work ( LOL... I have it full throttle honey you can't use it) so she unplugged it and I have been at work  and not able to reset everything.

What are you thoughts on those 300MHs KNC miners? that would get a couple coins I bet. I think the market might get flooded when they finally release them and the difficulties for script will go up

  • if that's maxing the GPU and freezing things up you probably won't get any better from your GPU unfortunately. What do you have set up as the fast pool server? I haven't tested it, but it definitely works with scrypt so it's probably a setup or pool difficulty.

KNC rock, I have a November Saturn and I just ordered 2 upgrade modules to double it's speed

The Titan scrypt miners though I have a cautious forecast for as well, the whole point of scrypt was that it should be ASIC resistant but obviously that's no longer the case so I do wonder whether Litecoin et al will go the way of the Dodo.

That said, KNC are my favourite hardware company and if you do buy something from them you'd be doing me a solid by using this link :)
