MacMiner crashes on startup

edited February 2014 in Support
Hi there,  I have tried reinstalling OSX on my Mac a couple of times now, including Mavericks, and my current clean installation of Mountain Lion.  Regardless of versions, and also regardless of the versions of MacMiner (I have tried incrementally downloading older versions from the newest) it still crashes on startup.

If you could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.  I have an Apple external display attached and have two Bitfury's plugged into the back of the monitor.  (I have tried disconnecting this also just to try and get the application to load but no joy).

I will have to email you the error dump that OSX throws up (to follow) as this post is limited on characters …

Many thanks!

Comments

  • Can you email me the address to send it to please.  Thanks.
  • Hey Oliver, can you email that to john at fabulous panda.co.uk please? You might try deleting

    /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MacMiner
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.fabulouspanda.macminer.plist
    /Users/username/Library/Caches/com.fabulouspanda.macminer

    Then restarting the computer
  • Just re-installed again to the latest version of Mavericks.  Also the latest MacMiner.  I loaded MacMiner and then plugged in USB cable to hardware.  Waited a short while and then clicked start to get the ASICs running.  All appeared to be working OK.  I then clicked stop and quite the application.  Upon loading it againIm back to the same issue I had before and cannot load MacMiner.

Just emailing you the error dump now ...
  • That is the bug I'm currently investing which should be fixed by deleting

    /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MacMiner
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.fabulouspanda.macminer.plist
    /Users/username/Library/Caches/com.fabulouspanda.macminer

Then restarting the machine, can you please let me know which pool types you set up and any other settings you changed? I'm trying to discover the cause of the crash.
  • Followed instructions, deleted files / folders as directed then rebooted.  All ok again on initial load, but as soon as it's run once, a reload of MacMiner and it crashes.  I've sent you the second error dump since following the instructions above ...
  • * Using Slush's Pool ...
** No other settings changed on fresh install
  • Can you let me know precisely how/what you set up please?
  • so pool set up in the new pool settings and nothing else touched?
  • Can you email me the generated config file please?
  • Setup is default bar entering Slush's server details plus of course worker and password.  I have emailed you error dump again now ...
  • it's the /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MacMiner/bfgurls.config file I'm interested in, whether something has gone wrong or unusual in the way it's set up - any special characters in the password, what is the copy paste pool url you're using?
  • I've just emailed you that file also.  All the info is in there - all looks OK to me?
  • I didn't get the email - could you send it again please?
  • Are those bouncing back? I'm just not getting the conf ones, something weird about that. Did you have a pass for the account or was that blank?
  • Not bouncing back, but I have resent on a new email this morning anyway - hopefully you'll get that.  To be honest there is nothing in it anyway other than the pool url and username / password for the pool.  Hope that helps.
  • Thanks, I did get that one. Slightly mystified that it all looks so normal :S Will take a good look at all the interactions with that file…
  • Funny but this is the absolute IDENTICAL situation that forced me to abandon M.M. and even my Butterfly hardware (that wasn't much of a sacrifice PRISON FOR JOSH BFL)  But yeah I fired up my 2 little BFL baby hashers for ebay last minute checks and this unrelenting bug came back and several workarounds later I basically gave up and am hoping my buyers are PC/Linux folk.

I don't know how much it's affecting others for all I know it's just myself and this chap but yeah it's pretty much an impossibility till I give up and go back to Mountain Lion or better yet just plain ass LION that actually took care of it but yeah not a minor issue by any means.

Anyway hope you figure it out if you ever do I'd happily return ;-)

    Sincerely,

    MichaelC
  • Can you please try this version and let me know whether it's working for you?
I think it's fixed but this isn't released widely yet
  • Hello I am running OS 10.8.3 and I've tried the last few most recent versions of MacMiner with no luck. I had it running yesterday but after restarting the computer it wont open. I Saved the Crash report. If anyone could take a look at it I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Have you tried the gridseed version that's not on the download page? I'm hoping it's fixed in this one!

    http://downloads.fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner-gridseed6.zip
  • I am having the same issue. MacMiner will work the first time i launch it but upon quitting and reopening, nothing. Same problem with gridseed6 link. Sometimes I can get it to launch in Terminal but not often. Running OSX 10.9.2

Sorry about this, I'll keep looking for a solution to this problem or at least to reproduce it, for now it's just narrowed down to definitely being the fault of the config files in

    /Users/username/Library/Application Support/MacMiner

and deleting those allows launch for affected users but pool has to be set up again
  • I have all but given up on MacMinor on my iMac running 10.8.3 with 4 ant miner U1 and 2 Ice Fury Nanos in a powered hub.  It crashes immediately.  Dead in the water. I hope I copied the relevant part of the crash report…not a programmer...

  • What coins have you guys set up before getting this crash? Looking for some other clue as to what's going on here…
  • Sorry for delay.  Limited time to figure this out.  As for coins:  I have only been mining for bit coins so far - though I have wallets for PeerCoin and LiteCoin and plan to commit some resources to mining Prc and Ltc soon.  If it helps, on the same computer I have been running my Nanofuries in bfgminer via Terminal.  There must be an irreconcilable driver conflict because I can never seem to get my Antminers and Nanofuries to work at the same time on the same machine.  Nor can I get cgminer up and running in another terminal window when bfgminer is running in another terminal window on the same iMac.  Fortunately, I have two iMacs…..
