Dear users of MacMiner,

It has been a pleasure helping so many Mac users enter the world of cryptocurrency. For a while now it's been obvious first that miners were moving away from USB interfaces and controllers on a standard computer to network interfaced boxes running Linux, with no need for a controller computer beyond miner monitoring. And now it seems mining may be moving in to corporate environments as it is no longer cost effective for every-day users.

As a result of that shift in the environment it I can no longer justify updating MacMiner regularly as the primary function of it has become near obsolete. The github remains for any who wishes to run MacMiner with updated backends (bfgminer, cgminer, sgminer etc) and I would be proud to see other developers take on the project. The forums will remain although at some point may be modified to include future projects. http://fabulouspanda.co.uk will be remodelled after I register a UK Limited Company so I can use it for work.

If there is a significant demand for a Mac miner monitoring app I will consider a new app with that focus, or focused on useful suggestions put to me by the user base. If you require assistance with MacMiner or cryptocurrency more generally I will be happy to help with quick enquiries, and if you would like more detailed assistance, set up of rigs, sites or servers, or even a custom app for Apple/web platform, please feel free to contact me and discuss it.

Thank you again for making my work worthwhile, and I welcome any suggestions for the future you may have for me.

All the best,

John

CPU miner: No KH, doesn't submit results. xmr-stak does work fine, so I guess it's the miner version in MacMiner.
Lyra2rev2: shows rate but no accepted or rejected shares. Same goes for Nist5.

As the previous version, Keccak does work at rates around the 300-400 Mh, it should be at around the 570 (it is on Windows)

Will report next version.

Hi everyone! I am new here and in the mining industry and just recognized that my CPU Miner and GPU Miner show "Starting... " but nothing happens! I have macOS HighSierra version 10.13.1 and AMD Radeon HD 6770 M Grafik card.

I installed this version of MacMiner http://macminer.fabulouspanda.com/macminer/

I try to mine StrongHands / SHA256 at CPU and FuturoCoin / X11 at GPU. I left standard settings.

I click on start but no mining, I also set stratum+tcp:// but nothing happens, so Simply turn MacMiner off and on, than switched SHA256 to GPU and X11 to CPU - voila! It worked out.

BUT CPU Mining uses up to 360% CPU! What is possible to do, to reduce this value significantly?

Now I also could try to GPU Mine X11 - but there occurs there errors PLUS Energy and CPU increases enormously! Peary dangerously... ;-)

Here the error report:

Hey guys,
I have access to around 45 iMacs that I could use for mining for about 10 hours a day if I wanted to. About 25 or so of these are Slim Unibodies with GTX 775Ms or Iris Pro 6200s. Of the remaining 20, 10 are Retinas with M390s, and 10 are older computers.

I believe the M390s, 775Ms, and Iris Pro 6200s are pretty good cards. I know these computers can have some pretty serious thermal issues, but assuming these were monitored and I could prevent temperatures from ever exceeding 75 C or so, would mining with these computers be viable? I intend to record some test sessions on each variant to get a better sense of what hash rates I should expect, but if anyone has any ball park numbers I would love to hear them.

What are your short and long term price predictions for BTC? Where do you see the market cap?

Personally I think it has greater potential than gold, because the total supply has a known limit unlike gold and people don't use gold as currency (anymore) — so the market cap could increase up to 7 trillion dollars and still have a way to go. It'll be interesting to see how the lightning network develops in 2018.

Hi,

I was wondering when you plan to become an identified developer on the Apple ecosystem. Using your software is very tricky, as our security locks on the work computers prevent us from using your software to mine.

I think this might be the right link: https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/IDEs/Conceptual/AppDistributionGuide/MaintainingCertificates/MaintainingCertificates.html

We have 18 computers with rx580s, and becoming a verified developer would help us immensely with using these to mine.

Regards,
James

Obviously Bitcoin is the frontrunner, but which alt-coins do you think have potential and why? I'm not too fond of ethereum because the deflationary model of Bitcoin is a big part of what originally sold me on it.

I think Litecoin, Dash and Monero are strong contenders, Litecoin for the lightning network and Dash/Monero for privacy considerations.
